The It Gets Better Project began in 2010 with a very simple goal, to spread a message of hope to young LGBTQ+ individuals around the world. If you’re already part of the industry, why not become a mentor? You can also donate to the mentorship program. If you’re a woman or nonbinary individual who identifies as LGBTQIA+, you can apply to the Queer Women of Esports program. At the end of the six-month program, mentees can receive scholarships of up to $15,000 USD for their projects. By helping more people gain the skills, relationships, and experience they need to work in the industry, they’re helping build a brighter future for esports as a whole. Their aim is to “break down barriers in a traditionally (cisgender and straight) male-dominated industry” by offering mentorship to people of marginalized genders. Queer Women of Esports are focused on making the esports industry more inclusive and equitable. Learn more on the Rainbow Arcade website or follow Rainbow Arcade on Twitch. They’re involved in events such as the Queer Black Excellence X Rainbow Arcade Summit, and they raise money for projects like Trans Lifeline and The Trevor Project. Their work doesn’t just stop at amplifying LGBTQIA+ voices on Twitch. They bring together a variety of diverse LGBTQIA+ voices who are dedicated to creating safe spaces for their communities. Rainbow Arcade is a team of content creators, artists, and streamers working together to increase intersectional diversity and inclusion in gaming for LGBTQIA+ communities.
